NRA BASIC PISTOL

This NRA course is perfect for the new handgun owner and serves as an introductory skills course for other more advanced defensive or competitive handgun courses. The course emphasizes the attitude, knowledge and skills necessary to safely handle a handgun. Special attention is given to safety and the basic fundamentals of shooting including position, grip, breath control, sight alignment trigger squeeze and follows through. Students will learn how to identify different types of handguns and how each type functions. A supervised and coached live fire exercise ensures students properly grasp all learning objectives. Students will see a significant improvement between the first and last shot. The NRA Basic Pistol manual is provided and a certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the live-fire section and a written examination.
The course is a minimum of 10 hours and covers the following topics:
- Buying a pistol - Intended use, semiautomatic or revolver and what caliber
- Pistol knowledge and safe gun handling
- Pistol parts and their operation - Single and double action revolvers and semiautomatic
- Handgun Maintenance - Disassembly, cleaning, safe storage, and transporting
- Ammunition types - Types of cartridges, rim-fire, center-fire and dealing with misfires
- Shooting fundamentals - The proper way to hold a gun, aligning the sights, and squeezing the trigger
- Two-Handed and One-Handed Standing shooting positions
- Common shooting errors
- Improving and maintaining shooting skills
- Michigan State Law - Ownership and possession, and transportation
The course combines classroom and live fire range time. DeLisle Associates provides all targets and needed documentation along with the NRA course materials.
You do not need to own or bring a handgun to attend this class. We have an assortment of pistols on hand for your use. All lead free ammunition will be supplied by DeLisle Associates for the live range.

You will need to provide eye and hearing protection.
This class is a 8 hour course with a fee of $75.00.
