What are the requirements necessary to obtain an Michigan CPL/CCW Permit?
While anyone interested in this subject is encouraged to check Act 381, generally, the law provides that a person who meets certain requirements will be issued a concealed pistol permit. The principal requirements are:
- The applicant is 21 years of age.
- The applicant has resided in Michigan for at least 6 months.
- The applicant is a citizen or legal resident of the United States.
- The applicant has successfully taken a gun safety course.
- The applicant is not under certain court orders, such as those involving mental disabilities, personal protection orders, legal incapacitation, etc.
- The applicant does not have a pending felony charge and has never been convicted of a felony or certain misdemeanors within a specified time period.
- The applicant has not been involuntarily committed due to a mental illness, adjudged insane, guilty but mentally ill or pled insanity in a criminal case.
- The applicant does not have a diagnosed mental illness at the time of the application.
- The applicant has not been dishonorably discharged from the US military.
- The applicant is not subject to a court order prohibiting the possession of a firearm.
How many hours is the CCW Course and where is it held?
The course runs 8 hours in length either Saturday or Sunday starting at 8:00 am at the DeLisle Associates Training Center located at 5050 South Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The classrooms are air-conditioned for your comfort. Three hours are spent for qualification on the range.

What is included in the course fee of $150.00?
All required Michigan CCW Permit application forms, all related printed material.
What is the range handgun qualification requirement?
You must demonstrate the ability to safely and accurately fire your handgun. Range qualification is a total of 6 shots at 5 yards. Qualifying shots must be placed in designated area of target in order to be counted as a hit.
Am I required to use my own handgun, and if so are there any special requirements?
We ask that you bring whatever handgun you feel comfortable with. You may use a revolver or semi-automatic pistol that is in good working order. Any caliber between .380 caliber and .45 ACP caliber is acceptable.
What if I do not have access to a handgun?
DeLisle can provide you with your choice of revolver or semi-automatic pistol as long as you request a rental pistol at the time of registration. There is an additional charge of $25 for handgun rental per gun. Call DeLisle at 269-373-4500 for more information.
